Recovery Plan Description
The recovery plan was created by the Department of the interior: fish and wildlife service agency. It is called “Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants; Reclassification of the West Indian Manatee from Endangered to Threatened”. Though the West Indian manatee was first put on the list as endangered, the agency has now reclassified them as threatened. Still unfortunate, but a small victory now that they are out of the endangered zone. The agency recreated this recovery plan because the species is no longer endangered, but they are still being protected and they explain why. This plan goes on to address the population size and how it is now larger than what is considered endangered. It also includes the population patterns over time and what caused the changes in population sizes. The recovery plan also includes the recovery process; which includes the action, acts, programs, etc they came up with during the process of this planned recovery. One last thing this recovery plan includes is an in depth analysis of available conservation measures.
