Geo and Pop Changes
West Indian manatees prefer shallow, slow-moving waters of rivers, estuaries, saltwater bays, canals, and coastal areas. And because these creatures have a low tolerance for cold water, due to their low metabolism, they are found in warmer waters. Specifically, these manatees are found primarily along the coast of Florida, the gulf coast, Caribbean coasts of central America, northern and eastern South America, and the Caribbean. They migrate between the Caribbean and Florida during the winter, and as far north as North Carolina all the way to Texas in the winter.
